The above picture of the Mount Katmai was obtained from AE Sailors Association.
The keel was laid on November 11, 1944 at North Carolina Shipbuilding Company in Wilmington, NC. She was launched on the 6th of January 1945 and commissioned the USS Mount Katmai AE-16 on July 21st, 1945. She is a Wrangel Class ship. She did not make it to the Pacific in time to be in World War II. She was the first Ammo ship in Korea at the outbreak of the Korean War.

I was on her for 4.5 years, as an electrician, starting in 45. There was was Mung, Al Kurtz, Tom Singleton, Dubrell, Finley Walker, and that's all I remember. Great Pics
